firefox cannot start because it is already open [Résolu]

Hello,
Sometimes I cannot start firefox because the program tells me that firefox is already started (or an application belonging to firefox). The program tells me to terminate firefox or to restart the system. I don't know all files belonging to firefox but firefox is not in the list of the open files , so it is not in the RAM memory. So I need to restart the system which can often be disturbing.
There is no error or crash message, only the message that it is already started. It happened several times after downloading some files. Might some of the files responsible for downloading be the reason ? Perhaps there should be a possibility in this case to kill all processes still open.
In contrast to this, I am glad that some other errors disappeared finally. Some time ago, firefox crashed on my system each time I wanted to open a file or to click on options. What a horror to be forced to use internet explorer against ones will ....
